What an incredible week of pickin’, singin’, and dancin’. Time functions differently at camp and makes 5 days feel like the whole summer. Together we made it through, despite the rain, heat, and (surprising lack of) bugs. Thank you for coming and making music with us!

We’d like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who helped make camp happen. Thank you to all of our amazing instructors, to Jenny and Joey, to our kitchen staff, to our volunteers, and to all of our campers! Camp couldn’t happen without you!

Without the confines of an instrument class holding him down, Ivan will be accessible for "office hours" and focused time with individual campers when he's not leading your jam or coaching your band.

Ivan Rosenberg has released nine solo albums and appeared on dozens more, and his original music has appeared in over 400 television episodes and films including The Oprah Winfrey Show and The Daily Show. Ivan won an IBMA Award for co-writing the 2009 Song of the Year, recorded on the Jerry Doulgas–produced CD Southern Filibuster: A Tribute to Tut Taylor, and has performed and recorded with Chris Coole, Chris Jones, Chris Stuart & Backcountry….and dozens of other musicians not named Chris.

Ivan has taught at music camps in the US, Canada, and the UK over 100 times including multiple appearances at ResoSummit, Walker Creek Music Camp, Old School Bluegrass Camp, Acoustic Music Camp, British Columbia Bluegrass Workshop, and Sore Fingers Summer School. He teaches hundreds of students every year online through Zoom workshops, Patreon, and private lessons. Kristine Schmitt has over thirty years of stage and recording experience, starting out as a honky-tonk bar-room belter, then moving on to touring and recording with a whole bunch of her heroes, including Chris Coole, Lonesome Ace Stringband, Andrew Penner, Fiver and Jenny Whiteley . She also booked a live music venue in Toronto for over ten years. These days she's most often seen on stage with Jesse Corrigan, and is privileged to have other artists performing her original songs. Her teaching specialties at the camp include songwriting, stagecraft for singers, and battling the demon stage-fright. And she's mightily proud to say that many of her students have gone on to become performers in their own right!

Alanna Jenish is a Canadian fiddler, guitarist and mandolin player. Based in Peterborough, Ontario, her musical background is diverse, beginning with roots in Canada’s Ottawa-Valley tradition, and expanding through a range of folk and fiddle-based genres. In 2017, Alanna graduated from the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Music with Honours. She has since performed across Canada, the United States and Europe with artists including The Fitzgeralds, Portage, Jane & Kyle and Ryan Young. In 2025, Alanna received a Canadian Folk Music Award for her most recent album ‘Daleview’ as Instrumental Composer of the Year. Alanna is a two-time recipient of the "Fiddler Player of the Year" Award at the Central Canadian Bluegrass Awards.

As an instructor, Alanna has worked at various music camps and workshops including the Goderich Celtic College, AlgomaTrad and the Toronto Fiddle Collective. She has appeared at York University Faculty of Music as a guest instructor, and has served as an adjudicator for both classical music festivals and Canadian Old-Time Fiddle Competitions.

Hannah says that growing up, music was a given. Naiman’s parents are both musicians; and, as a child, they brought her to folk music festivals and traditional music and dance camps that remained constants in her life. Eventually, Hannah took ownership or those experiences, and began to lead songs and dances, contribute to them, and create them.
Hannah says that from the first time she stole her father’s banjo, she intuitively understood how it worked. She found the instrument to be a natural fit and wrote her first song within weeks of picking it up.
Hannah has performed at Merlefest (North Carolina), Ozark Folk Centre (Arkansas), Club Passim (Massachusetts), Northern Lights Festival Boreal (Sudbury, ON), Summerfolk (Owensound, ON), Blue Skies Folk Festival (Perth, ON) Full Circle Festival (Newport, NS), and Harrison Festival of the Arts (Harrison Hot Springs, BC).

"I have been teaching both bluegrass/3-finger and clawhammer style banjo for over 10 years, including private lessons, group classes, and workshops. In that time, I have developed specific approaches to learning that I believe will give you the tools to understand how to play this unique instrument! We’ll learn tunes & licks and do plenty of jamming, and throughout I’ll be unpacking some of the “language” of banjo playing so you can adapt it to your own playing. We’ll also touch on such fun subjects as theory, ear training, good practice habits, jam/ensemble etiquette, basic maintenance, and whatever else we have time for. Come prepared to learn, to play, and to have a good time!"

Jesse has had the pleasure of playing with some truly incredible musicians throughout his career, including Sam Allison, Frank Evans, Kristine Schmitt, Charlotte Cornfield, The Lonesome Ace, Coco Love Alcorn, and JD Crosstown to name just a few. Aside from his musical endeavours, Jesse is happiest when he is outside, whether it be enjoying the wilds of Canada, or practicing his trade as a carpenter. Wherever you find him, odds are you’ll find him singing.

We are thrilled to share some wonderful news about the future of Old School Camps!

After a decade of producing over 30 magical music camps, founder and director Jenny Whiteley @jenny.whiteley has made the decision to hand the Camp Director reins over to the two of us; Jaymie Karn @jaymiekarn.creative and Kyle Kirkpatrick @dobrokyle . We are so, so very honoured and thankful to continue the legacy of this special community and take Old School Bluegrass Camp into its 11th year and beyond!

But don’t worry! We will still be hanging out with Jenny!!

We are delighted to confirm that this year’s annual Old School Bluegrass Camp will take place on July 1-5, 2026 at the home you know and love: Jenny Whiteley’ and Joey Wright's beautiful property in Elphin, Ontario, out in the Ottawa Valley! You’ll still get to sing and laugh with her this summer, don’t you fret!

While leadership is shifting, the spirit of Old School very much remains the same. We are committed to celebrating the best of traditional and contemporary bluegrass music, as well as continuing to grow and play with this incredible community.
